Cute photo and cute kid, Tim. Thanks for the post. Coicidentally I qwent out in a light gusty breeze the day after that post with my new nylon box kite. It's eo6 Prism Kite that I bought at REI in Bloomington, MN. I had a tough time getting it aloft, ground level wind speed wasn't heavy or sustained. But without 30 minutes of patiences and walking to figure out the best option in the field out back, it took off and sailed high. I knew it would go if I could get it 30 feet into the air. I played out almost all of my string before the wind died. Most staisfactory :)

Yes, box kites can pull a lot for their size - here's our 3 year old hanging on to a very small 2-skewer box kite in a fresh breeze. (Scroll down a bit to find the photo)

It's nice having a few box kites on hamd for when every other kind of single-line kite would get blown out of the sky :-)

without sounding like I'm callous for not giving sympathy I thought sharing a memory would be more uplifting: for too many years I worked for a tourism/transportation company in Chicago. I most enjoyed driving for shuttles; usually there was nothing you had to say to your passengers and you could just engage them in conversation.
On one such job I started talking to this fella who was enjoying some venison jerky. Jokingly I asked if he had brought enough to share with the whole class. He smiled and offered me some. It's the only time I've had venison and since it was jerky I'm not sure I can really say I've had it. But it was delicious and I'd eat some now if I had it.
If a person lives in an area where they share their surroundings with wildlife they have to know that accidental death of said wildlife will occur. The fact that you took yours home for dinner is, in a sense, respecting the life of that animal; it becomes more than just a carcass by the side of the road.
Anyway. I hope you are finding peace from the stress and strain that Life gives us. When the road gets bumpy sit back and let God drive.

Updates: car is in the shop, deer is in the freezer, boat is running and headed for Red Wing this evening, haven't heard from The Boy, and Naida is still breathing. Please keep praying - God is Good! Amen.
P.S. Got all my work done today AND Barb is home doing just fine after her first colonoscopy. She's my hero today.

What a wee! Taking that baby to college is not an easy day at all. Having an empty house totally sucks!
I am so sorry for all the other sad adventures of the week. Prayers coming for Dales aunt and for the family. Hope the boat, car and blackberry are repairable. Prayers coming on all fronts.

How can you not love this season? It is so full of promise. The trees are really budding out now. If you take a tromp in the woods, you'll see tons of wildflowers up already; skunk cabbage, trilliums, snowdrops. Plus a good long tromp will warm you right up.
Maybe if you take your Eeyore self out in the woods for a hike you'll find your Pooh self again.

I had it too. It took me weeks to get over the chest tightness and I'm still coughing, but not the kind that brings tears to your eyes. I did luck out and got a diagnosis over the phone from my doctor's RN, so I was out for the cost of the Mucinex, but at least didn't have an office co-pay. This must be a new form of respiratory flu. I've never had it go straight to the chest before either.

Sorry, I'm a motorcycling book pusher and I see you're a library user, so I had to spread the library love. Our library went from an unlimited number of books you could put on a reserve list to 5. I thought they were going to tar and feather the library staff. Goodreads is the solution to that. I use it to keep track of the books that I want to read and it's a great social interface for books.
